A great friend hatched a plan for a number of guys to challenge each other in an Ironman triathlon. I signed up for Ironman Canada in August 2012. This will entail a 2.4-mile swim, 112-mile bike and a full 26.2-mile marathon to be completed in under 17 hours.
The plan for this event is more than just doing an Ironman. There are two other objectives. First, we hope to grow and challenge each other as men to be stronger followers of God and better husbands and fathers. Second, we’d like to use this event as a way to raise funds for some of the exciting Youth for Christ ministries world-wide.
Triathlon is SWIM, BIKE and RUN and so we plan to tie each of those athletic aspects to specific projects that Youth for Christ is doing world-wide, with the end result being to impact young people with the message of Christ. For instance…
We will SWIM—and there are CLEAN WATER projects that need help in Africa.
We will BIKE—and Youth for Christ is buying BIKES for Japanese folks that were devastated by last year’s earthquake and tsunami.
We will RUN—and in turn support SPORT CLUBS in Central and South America.
Would you consider a pledge or gift towards this event next year? I will have to complete 140.6 miles. Would you consider a gift of $.25, $.50 or $1 per mile? Again, we are thankful for any gift or pledge and what it can enable for the work of Youth for Christ.
