Bobo’s Story

WRITTEN BY: Jonah Hamilton  SOURCE: Emily Liddiard

Bobo was once a regular teen in Botswana. Then he became a drug addict. He went from being an addict to becoming a dealer with business in four schools. Plagued not only by addiction, suicidal thoughts began to dominate his mind. He’d had enough with life. He was done. In a last ditch effort to halt his hand as he planned to take his life, he called his sister. She, being a youth pastor, pointed him to the one who truly saves, Jesus. In those nailed scared hands rest our only hope in life. When Bobo realized this, it changed everything. He was an addict, a hopeless drug dealer who was losing the battle within him. Then he met Christ. As his sister lead him in that fateful prayer, the scales fell off his eyes and hope surged in his heart.

Bobo was now a new creation with a new mission. He felt led to spread the Gospel and that God would use him to revive hearts for Jesus in a country filled with nominal Christians. A volunteer for Youth for Christ, Bobo is living out Romans 1:16. It started with his sister who was not afraid to share God’s truth. His journey of faith now takes Bobo through Botswana and surrounding nations, sharing the gospel with people who have never heard it.

In March of 2014, Bobo and seven other Youth for Christ team members trekked through wet and muddy conditions in a Jeep to reach a group of rural cattle herders. The cattle herders lacked things we take for granted like running water and electricity but more than that they had no knowledge of the gospel or the love of God. This group of young people was the first to ever share the good news of Christ with them. By the grace of God three people accepted Christ. One woman was prayed over for her legs to be healed. This display of love moved the woman to tears because no one had ever prayed for her before.

Beyond this, Bobo has gone on mission trips to Zambia and Malawi, countries north of Botswana. Malawi especially is a region with few Christians and widespread malaria. One of the many things that are incredible about all this is that Bobo is just one of many working with Youth for Christ in their mission to bring the Gospel to those in need.
