Celebrating 50 Years of Youth Ministry in Sri Lanka

srilankaCharles H. Spurgeon in his work “The Treasury of David” writes that Psalm 100 verse 5 sums up the character of God: “For the LORD is good; his steadfast love endures forever, and his faithfulness to all generations.” Spurgeon goes on to say, “No fickle being is he (God), promising and forgetting. He has entered into a covenant with his people, and he will never revoke it … As our fathers found him faithful, so will our sons, and their seed for ever.”

On 22 August our Youth for Christ family in Sri Lanka celebrated the enduring goodness of God to their ministry and to the youth they have seen touched by the Gospel and discipled over the last 50 years.

Thank God for the Bible teachers who, though their words and example have planted seeds of God’s truth into the hearts of young people and nurtured them into the faith.

Thank God for his provision of the 16 YFC centres and 86 full- and part-time staff spread throughout the country.

Praise God for the sacrifice and commitment of the 240+ volunteers who give regularly of their time and energy to support the various outreaches: youth clubs and camps; sport, tutorial, performing arts and adventure ministries; and drug rehabilitation programs.

The majority of the volunteers, staff and board members were active in Youth for Christ during their youth. Pray that God would raise up and equip from among today’s youth mentors, disciplers, and evangelists to the next generation of young people in Sri Lanka
