What Young Leaders Need to Know
Welcome, to all Young Leaders! We are excited that you are interested in being involved in the Young Leader Development and Empowerment Process and participating in the many opportunities at General Assembly 2008.
The 2-year Young Leader Development and Empowerment process is rigorous in its commitment. The design of the process is predominantly experiential and will be sustained relationally. The desired outcome is that your commitment to this process will drive you to action.
- Elements of the 2-year Young Leader Development and Empowerment Process:
- Being involved in a mentoring relationship with a senior YFC leader in your nation.
- Participating in ministry skills training.
- Taking part in an intentional discipleship program and the heart transformation process.
- Completing several online YFC University courses.
- Attending and participating in the Young Leaders intensive leadership training at YFC's General Assembly 2008 in South Africa.
- Training in prayer.
- Completing Biblical studies courses.
- Entering into a Coaching relationship with others, and much more.
- How do you get involved?
- The first thing you need to know is that to participate in these programs, you must meet a set of requirements and be selected by your National Director or National Coordinator. The best starting point is for you to speak to your National Director/Coordinator and tell them of your interest. Once you have their approval, they will direct you to fill out a Young Leader application form.
- What is expected of you?
- The Young Leader Development and Empowerment Process requires a 2-year commitment. You must be willing to invest both your time and energy to complete each of the components of the process. Please be sure to take time to read over the Timeline for this 2-year process. This will help you better understand what is expected of you and what you will gain from this experience.
- What is the cost to me?
- Each Young Leader accepted into the 2-year Young Leader Development and Empowerment Process will receive a scholarship that covers the cost of the 2-year process. These scholarship funds will not be directly distributed to you or your National Director/Coordinator. They will be applied directly to the costs of the process.
- The only costs that will be incurred by you, the Young Leader, are those associated with General Assembly. Up to five Young Leaders from each nation will be eligible to apply for travel subsidies to attend GA 2008. Based upon recommendations from National Directors and Coordinators, Area Directors will determine who will receive these travel subsidies. For more information on the costs for General Assembly, see General Information.
- Where is the application?
- You can download an application and mail it to your National Director (including a picture of yourself on a labeled CD) or submit your application online. Note: you will need to submit an electronic picture of yourself with your application.
- You've been accepted, now what?
- If you have been accepted into the 2-year Young Leader Development and Empowerment Process, you have an exciting journey ahead of you. You will be receiving and participating in some very key training initiatives that will not only develop you in your ministry role, but will also empower you as an individual. We are excited about what this process will mean for your life and look forward to what the Lord will do. Don't forget to register for General Assembly!
